The Progressive Polygamists are back at it again...

rEvolver Festival
May 20 -31,
The latest evolution in Upintheair Theatre's ten-year history of Festival production, rEvolver builds on the success of the Walking Fish and Neanderthal Arts Festivals, and takes place each May at The Cultch in East Vancouver.rEvolver: brings audiences the full range of contemporary theatrical practice, from script-based theatre to devised and site-specific works, staged readings of work-in-progress, and in-depth discussions with artists. The Changing Stage rEvolver: presents adventurous, high energy, and sophisticated new work by emerging companies and artists. rEvolver: is the only venue in Vancouver dedicated to offering professional presenting opportunities to emerging artists and companies.
Created and performed by award winning comedians Pippa Mackie and Emmelia Gordon >>>> check it out >>>> Polygamist FB Page
The Progressive Polygamists is a fast paced satirical comedy about two sister wives, Mercy Eve and Eden Grace, who are determined to convince the world that polygamy is modern, harmless and the best way to live. While doing so, they address the most common assumptions about being a polygamist: jealousy, children, heavy petting and highly coiffed hair. Through song, cookies, jump rope, and confessions this show shines a new light on a topical and controversial British Columbian polygamist community. It's not a performance, it's a "REformance" and the sister wives do there very best to "Keep Sweet". Each performance is one of comic genius.

Last season’s runaway hit comedy returns for an election year encore. Award-winning playwright Michael Healey takes on his biggest subject yet: The Right Honourable Stephen Harper. His sexy, cheeky and surprising play will have you rolling in the aisles – regardless of your politics. Proud imagines a different outcome to the last Federal election – the Tories took Quebec and won a huge majority. A young, attractive and very inexperienced female MP (Jessie Award winner Emmelia Gordon) provides the Prime Minister (Andrew Wheeler) with a new tool in his arsenal. Unfortunately for him – she may be the smartest man in the room!

Fat Pig by Neil LaBute
Just how hung up on body image are we? are we so concerned with weight that we've deemed it acceptable to categorize people based on this? To think less of them? Even to mock them. This is the subject that Neil LaBute boldly confronts in his play Fat Pig, come see for yourself.
"I see a lot of myself in Fat Pig; whatever the name of the piece, the story really deals with human weakness and the difficulty many people face when trying to stand up for, live up to, or come out for something they believe in."

INDUSTRY:
The Food Must Go Out
A show about the restaurant industry performed in an actual restaurant by people who actual work there!!
Drink available during the show.
VENUE: EDIBLE CANADA BISTRO Granville Island.
** Stay Tuned for an UPDATE on this show **
Site-specific shows are a fun part of the Vancouver Fringe and when the site matches the story and is told with the right caliber of talent the result can be quite thrilling, as is the case with Industry: The Food Must Go Out.
This show is a perfect Fringe show as it deals with that harsh truth of brilliant actors often having to work in the food service industry. Pippa Mackie, Lauren Jackson and Nik Bunting with special guest appearance by Emmelia Gordon as “the Hangover” are some of the funniest actors in the city. Some of them work at Edible Canada and they do their show, a series of fast paced and very funny sketches, late night after closing. Toss in few heartfelt moments and you get a delightful romp that will make you giggle like a fool.

DISSOLVE by Meghan Gardiner

So many adventures and little time to post about them. Well here is another brief up date for your viewing pleasure.
Last year around April 2013 I had the opportunity to audition for Shameless Hussy Productions for a one woman show called DISSOLVE by Meghan Gardiner. I was (am) honoured to be cast in this one woman show about drug facilitated sexual assault.
The play follows a young girl on a night out and the people she encounters, with the actress morphing fluidly between a flurry of 14 characters, both comedic and compelling. Designed to provoke thought and dialogue about sexual consent, DISSOLVE challenges us to change our beliefs and behaviour surrounding alcohol, drugs and sexual assault. DISSOLVE proposes to transform potential bystanders into ‘upstanders.’
"Spot-on satire… the characters funny and recognizable … a rewarding show." Vancouver Sun
"In 25 as an educator I've never seen a more powerful presentation. There’s a tremendous need for this in schools today." - Jay Prepchuk, Counseling Head, Handsworth Secondary
Director Renee Iaci leads the creative team including our Artistic Associates Lana Krause (Costume Design), and Stephen Bulat (Sound Design), with Matthew Norman (Scenography), Stephen Heatley (Directorial Mentor), and Yeon Kyeom Kim (Stage Manager). With a mandate of "telling provocative stories about women to inspire the hand that rocks the cradle to rock the world" shameless hussy puts herstory to the forefront. We bring work that provokes a deeper understanding of women's past, present and potential, onto stages across Canada and the US. www.shamelesshussy.com
DISSOLVE is available for touring, it's a wake-up call that you need to consider bringing to your school or local theatre. The play is suitable for adult and young adults alike. It is especially relevant for youth of an age to enjoy the freedom and independence that comes with socializing with friends and classmates.
Show: 45 minutes + talk back follows each performance. Study guide available.

wow. Its been a while...

So over the last year or so I have been hard at work with many shows and productions. I get my hands in and on anything and everything I can.
With the Progressive Polygamists: We have traveled all over Canada (Toronto, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Fort McMurrey. Yes, Fort McMurrey), playing to sold out house's and continue to make audiences laugh, ponder and talk. I even produced a show at the Firehall Arts Center called "Healing through Humor: A double bill" sharing the stage with well know Calgary actor Bruce Horak as he performed "This is Cancer". It was a wonderful success. Even Colin Thomas picked it as one of his top show's of 2012 in Vancouver.
There was the PULL Festival, were I got the pleasure of playing two wonderful characters. A drunk party girl who sets up a threesome for her and her pal, that goes horrible wrong & a pious, righteous born again pro lifer who will stop at nothing to help the "sheep" learn their wrong doing's. Needless to say, I had a GREAT TIME and got to work with some wonderful local-up-and coming actors, directors, playwrights and audience!
NOW! I am about to begin rehearsal for an up coming ONE WOMAN show called Dissolve. A tale of one girls night out that turns into a nightmeare

First day of TORONTO FRINGE JULY 6-17

DAY1: TRAVELS: slept for an hour, missed my flight, got a new flight, lost my ride, lost my bag, my buddy Corey saved me from airport doom, wore polygamists costume, Buddies in Bad Time drag show, Jason surprised Matty with a New York trip, shawarma, got my bag back, pass out.
All in all, I think my 1st day in Toronto was pretty good.
DAY 2: here we go! walked around, got a little lost, ran into a Vancouverite randomly, Hung out in a shaded tree fort, walked batherst street, burgers and beers at the burger barn, Pippa arrived, beers in the sun, walk in the warm night air, food for breakfast, Roof top patio with my good friend Athena, header home with Pippa's stuff for a much needed sleep over.
DAY 3: Abruptly woken up by drywall repairs in apt, Breakfast of champions, header down to Queen street west for some SHOPPING!!, shop, walk, shop, walk, shop, walk, stop, eat: PRAHA, yerba mate cafe, found a bridesmaid dress for Pippa, bus to St.Lawrence Market, Pea mill bacon sandwiches, keys for New pad, patio drinks with new & old friends, and another long walk home in the warm/cool night breeze. As always, we end the night with a glass of cold white wine. Ahhh. sleep.
